POLYPRENOLS
About polyprenols
Polyprenols are long-chain isoprenoid alcohols of natural origin with the general formula of
H-(C5H8)n-OH, Polyprenols play an important function, acting as natural bioregulators and occurring in small amounts in various tissues of plants and animals.
Very interesting and promising data on the biological activity of this group of compounds have been obtained over the past period. Japanese, American, European and Russian patents testify to the pronounced anti-ulcer, hepatoprotective, antitumor, antiatherogenic (hypolipidemic and antisclerotic), immunomodulatory activity of these compounds.
There are 3 methods of production of polyprenols in the world: isolation from raw materials of animal and plant origin, as well as by methods of fine organic synthesis. High cost of production is an obstacle to active research and mass production of drugs based on polyprenols.
